Every year a large number of students attend Al Qasr Mixed School from other schools with different teaching environments.

After completing the first phase of the “Preserving Our School Property” program, the school community was delighted of what has been accomplished from maintaining and renewing the school’s infrastructure. In return, the school’s administrative staff and teachers faced several major challenges in maintaining and preserving the school’s building itself, since students used the school’s building in several ways to entertain themselves, for example they skied on the ceramic tiles in between classes and enjoyed sabotaging the water taps in the bathrooms, however, the most critical challenge was maintaining the school’s cleanness.

The entire school community members ensured that “the environment is what is surrounding us and it’s the place that we live in. Therefore, maintaining its cleanliness reflects the ethics of each member in this environment”. Accordingly, all the initiatives that have been developed and implemented by an integrated school teams made of administrators, teachers, students and their parents, focused on creating a better learning environment. “My basket” was one of the most outstanding initiatives that was implemented by fifth grade students, its main concept is making a small recycling basket to be placed on the stairs. This basket can be used for recycling matters.

Another initiative was preparing instructional boards and educational aids and hang them up on the classroom walls and corridors. These initiatives expanded to the creation of the “Environment Police” initiative; done by the mentoring teachers and students to maintain the cleanness and order of the school. It aimed to enhance student’s positive values and ethics related to preserving the school’s physical property and was implemented by the school’s science teachers.

The success of “A Small Plant” initiative was reflected through a second grade student who had an aggressive and a disruptive behavior inside the school. The student’s behavior was the main reason why most teachers would hesitate teaching this class, but it was completely evident that the student’s negative behaviors completely changed when the school began implementing this initiative since he started behaving differently and became a role model to the rest of the students in achieving a better learning environment.
