Implementation of the Basic Program for School Principals

ASK for Human Capacity Building, through Qatar Leadership Centre, and its partner the International Advisory Group concluded the implementation of the Basic Program for School Principals / Phase II offered for the Training and Educational Development Center at the Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar.
It should be noted that Qatar Leadership Centre is a key partner in the education development process and leading the development work through national capacity building and the design of multidisciplinary training programs characterized by inclusiveness, innovation, and meeting the target groups’ training needs in order to achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The Basic Program for School Principals / Phase II, is considered one of the essential programs that cover the skills, knowledge, and competencies that educators must master, considering it was mainly built on the national professional standards for teachers and school leaders according to professional licenses’ requirements and career advancement for educators in the field. Furthermore, The Basic Program for School Principals / Phase II falls under the umbrella of (Core Programs Path) for the training curriculum composition at the Training and Educational Development Center.
The Basic Program for School Principals / Phase II focused on introducing school principals to educational leadership models in terms of the development of students’ performance and outcomes and enabling them to deploy school core values between one another, their teachers, school leaders, parents and society in light of the values contained in the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The program focused on the leaders’ review of national professional standards to understand the important role they play in shaping the culture of the school and elevating students’ performance. The program included teaching and learning theories that improve leaders’ performance and utilizing strategies that engage both the teachers and leaders in the development of school culture which leads to raising the entire school’s performance.
The main program consists of two main components:
First component: Training workshops
The first component consists of 12 training workshops equivalent to 60 direct training hours distributed over 3 courses as follows:
First course: Advanced Skills in Strategic Leadership
Second course: Principal’s Leadership Roles to Improve Students’ Performance
Third course: Leading and Establishing a Continuous Learning Culture in School
Second component: On-site support
The second component includes on-site support for each participant at their school for the goal of transferring the impact of training on the ground, promoting the competencies of participants in the work place, ensuring that training goals were met and offering solutions for the participants to resolve any emerging problems.
When recognizing the independent schools’ principals who have completed the Basic Program for School Principals / Phase II, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Abdul Wahed Al-Hammadi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, emphasized the educators’ roles and responsibilities for the goal of achieving quality education, saying:
“The challenge ahead of us lies in how to get our students to deliver quality in their academic achievements, skills and in their way of thinking”. His Excellency urged educators and leaders to provide quality education to citizens in addition to equipping staff with the needed resources so they are capable of completing their tasks with accuracy, quality, discipline, and integrity.
Dr. Al Hammadi recommended that school administrators invest and double efforts in order to achieve the hopes and aspirations of the wise leadership of the State of Qatar, affirming that the advancement of education is a shared responsibility between educational leaders, including the Minister of Education himself.
